Job Summary

The VP of Maintenance & Regulatory Compliance will work closely with their management team and will be responsible for ensuring the Maintenance department works efficiently, effectively and as a unit to support the Companies’ continued growth and success into the future.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operations

  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the Quality Assurance Program and the Evaluation Program
  • Oversee all matters relating to regulatory compliance with applicable legislation, and appropriate Government authorities
  • Develop a strategic plan to build the Company block check operations to include all Wasaya heavy checks and develop a business model to outsource our Block Check operations to outside operators
  • Ensuring maintenance schedule programs are Transport Canada approved
  • Maintaining close liaison with your team members for all requirements of aircraft parts, accessories, components, etc.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Maintenance, oversee the authorization of certifications for Aircraft Certification Authority, Shop Certification Authority and Elementary Work/servicing
  • Ensuring any approved Vendor or Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) used by the operator meets the applicable procedures.
  • Maintaining a close liaison with airframe & engine manufacturers and contractors service support departments covering in or out of plant repairs
  • Ensuring all company aircraft and assets entrusted to the Maintenance/Engineering department are protected against fire, theft, misuse or exposure to the elements
  • Carrying out maintenance activities on company and other aircraft to satisfy the safety standards of both Wasaya and Transport Canada and meet the normal and proper requirements of scheduled operations
  • Developing, maintaining and controlling the company Maintenance Policy Manuals, along with any other publications incorporated by reference
  • Responsible for building a strong, professional relationship with employees and customers both internal and external
  • Ensuring any finding resulting from Quality Assurance or the Safety Management System (SMS) is addressed as per Wasaya Airways Policy/Procedure
  • Coach management teams on employee/labor relations, customer service requests, employees, and union inquiries
  • Developing and maintaining the SMS for the maintenance department, in cooperation with the Company SMS program
  • Actively promote a positive corporate culture that reflects the values and mission of the organization.
  • Any other related duties as assigned

Financial

  • Oversee Departmental annual budgets,
  • In conjunction with the Executive team, develop annual strategic plans, operating plans, forecasts, budgets, and capital expenditures
  • Adhere to all financial internal controls
  • Monitor department manpower to ensure within budget, and proper allocation of human resources
  • Engage in ongoing cost reduction analysis within the Maintenance department

Safety

  • Actively support the safety management system by following SMS processes and encouraging a safety reporting culture in your department
  • Promote occupational health and safety within your department, and participate in the development and monitoring of safety training
  • Proactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your department
  • Embark on employment equity initiatives, engaging with all employees to promote employment equity
  • All levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization, overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives

Senior Management (Department Head) – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Accountable Executive for developing and maintaining the SMS (Safety Management System) program within their departments, this includes receiving reports and communicating freely to and with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities. Ensure regulatory and company standard processes and procedures are developed and maintained (Quality Assurance activities). Ensure all hazards and deficiencies are managed to remove or reduce risk to as low as reasonably possible. Providing resources as necessary or informing the Accountable Executive when they are required (e.g. human, financial, training, tools, proper protective equipment).

 

Leadership

  • Change management leader – execute change while supporting employees through communication, listening and actioning
  • Lead and inspire employees, provide mentorship, and oversee the professional development of the Maintenance team
  • Create and maintain a positive company culture that supports employee participation

Skills and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Licensed AME for a minimum of 10 years
  • Previous experience at the Senior Management or executive level
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with a thorough understanding of different cultures, traditions, practices and beliefs as it affects doing successful business in the North
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Northern experience is an asset
  • Must obtain and retain all required Enhanced Security Clearances
  • Highly flexible, with the ability to respond quickly in a dynamic environment
  • Timely with a high level of commitment to on-time performance is essential
  • High level of respect, understanding, and regard for First Nations communities
  • Superior time management skills, multitasking skills and the ability to prioritize tasks

  • The ability to communicate in Oji-Cree or Ojibway is an asset.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of First Nations Organizations is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent travel is required.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift or move up to 20 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
